Fallen Out is LIVE on Amazon and only $.99!!!!

The day has finally come, a day ahead of schedule. Fallen Out is now available on Amazon for Kindle. Just click the cover image to the right to download it on Amazon. The paperback version will be available starting Saturday, 5/31.

Fallen Out is the prequel and now first book in the exciting Jesse McDermitt Action/Adventure Series. It starts with our hero, Jesse, experiencing his last day in the Marine Corps, where his retirement is a bittersweet end to 20 years of service and the beginning of his new life as a civilian. It ends with the first time he sees the beautiful Alexis DuBois, after being a charter boat Captain for almost three years.

In between, he's involved in bar fights, one night stands, and surviving a hurricane in the Everglades. Though a shorter read than the other three in the series, it packs every bit as much action and adventure. Guaranteed to keep you turning pages and easily read during a weekend at the beach.

For a limited time only, the Kindle version is available for only $.99. To celebrate the release, Fallen Palm and Fallen Hunter will also be priced at $.99 from Saturday morning, 5/31 until midnight on Monday, 6/2. You'll be able to get all four books for under $7 this weekend and this weekend only.

As always, half the proceeds from Fallen Pride, the 4th novel in the series, will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Fallen Out Release Date Announced, 5/31/14.

Fallen Out is nearly complete. The manuscript was submitted to my Proofreaders and Beta Readers last week. I got most of their recommendations back early this week, made my edits and submitted it to my Copy Editor for final review. Tomorrow and Friday, I'll be working on the Copy edits, scouring the manuscript for any more last minute proof or beta edits and will submit it to Amazon Friday night.

Fallen Out is the prequel to the first three books in the Jesse McDermitt series and ties in a lot of background details that many readers have asked about. It covers the time period from the day Jesse retires from the Marine Corps, to the day he meets his future wife, Alex, about 2-1/2 years.

It's a much shorter read than the previous books, only about 60% the length, and can easily be read during a trip to the beach. But, it does pack enough action to keep the action/adventure junkies happy.

It was a lot of fun to write, because the number of characters was considerably lower than the last book, Fallen Pride and it takes Jesse from his last day as a Marine to being a total noob in the Keys, a place he's visited many times, but never lived.

If everything goes the way I plan, it will be available on Amazon in either paperback or Kindle by Saturday morning, 5/31. I have a huge promo going that day on Fallen Hunter and hope to be able to take advantage of the sell through to other titles in the series and get it up and off the ground in a big way. The initial price for paperback is a low $8.99, plus shipping and the initial Kindle price will be a super low $.99. No, that's not a typo, less than a buck.

I Quit My Day Job!

After five years with the same company, I just up and quit. I'd been planning on it for quite a while and even set the date. I chose Independence Day. Having been an over the road truck driver for over 11 years, I was ready to get out of the truck and spend more time with my family. My writing was going to enable me to do just that and become completely independent.

Since my book sales have increased over the last three months, I informed the company three weeks ago that I wanted to do local driving, starting the following Monday. They have two divisions. The over the road drivers are out a week to three weeks at a time and the local drivers are home just about every night and always on weekends. Monday came and I was dispatched on a run to upstate New York. Living in South Carolina, that didn't quite fit the bill as a local driver. I accepted the load anyway, but reminded them I wanted to be local after that and put it in writing, in the form of an email to the owner, the General Manager, the head of HR and the head of Payroll. The following week I was local, never more than 250 miles from home, but didn't get home a single night. When I finally got back to the yard on Thursday, I was told I'd need to move out of my nice, new truck, which I'd just been assigned in January, and move into a five year old truck. The reason I was given was that my truck was needed for a new, over the road driver. Word travels fast on the yard and I learned that the new driver was to be a local driver at the Richmond yard. I was being dissed.

The GM is kind of a control freak, and I realized he was using that control against me, for no other reason than he could. Ours was a mutual hate relationship. He didn't even come out to tell me to move himself, but sent someone else, the owners son. I told him that I was already planning to quit and since moving out of a truck is a pain, taking several hours, I'd go ahead and give him a weeks notice now and move out next week. He got on the phone with the GM then hung up and said I'd have to move into the older truck that day. The GM was sure I was bluffing and he had me over the proverbial barrel.

I just smiled and said, "Then tell him to consider this my one hour's notice" and started cleaning out my truck. It felt great. I was ecstatic, looking forward to this new chapter in my life, just beginning. I had a few of my books in the truck. I put one of each of the first three in an envelope and gave it to the owners son, asking him to give them to his dad. I signed each one, thanking him for the opportunity to work for him. I also gave the owners son a signed copy of my first book, Fallen Palm. Since I was no longer bound by any of the company's ridiculous regulations about side work, I carried a box full of my books into the garage and sold 8 copies to my now ex-fellow employees.

Now, I'm home and not going anywhere. I've set up a schedule to write three hours every morning and then spend three hours networking and promoting in the evening, working in the yard and in our subsistence garden in between. The next six weeks will be a little bit of a struggle. I chose Independence Day because that's when my larger royalties will start being paid, due to the publication of my third book in April. We'll get by easy enough though.

For those that say dreams don't come true, sorry, they do. I've dreamed of being a full time writer since the '80's. Life and a non-supportive ex-spouse got in the way, and I set the dream aside. My wife now, is a very supportive and motivating person. She's also my biggest fan.

I'll finish the book I'm currently working on, Fallen Out, which is a prequel to the first three, by early next month and then start to work on the next one in the series. I hope to publish at least two more before the end of the year and five next year.

Life is good.......

Your Carolina interview.

On Monday, 4/21, I made a guest appearance on WSPA, the local CBS affiliate in the Greenville, SC area. It was a lot of fun talking with Megan Hiedleburg about my books and the Wounded Warrior Project.

First Book Signing

A great place to have my first book signing. The Corps Store in Beaufort, SC on Recruit Graduation Day, Parris Island. Met some fine young Warriors and talked about my time in the Corps and what they might have to look forward to. The pride was clearly visible in their parents eyes. I only sold four books, but still had a great time.

Fallen Pride is now published.

It's been a hard four months, but I think it's been worth it. Last night, just after midnight, I clicked "Publish" for the third time, making the third book in the Jesse McDermitt series available. Through the magic of the internet, it's now available for download to Kindle, just eight hours later. The paperback version should be available in another few hours.

This book has been difficult to write at times. It involves a young Marine, recently returned from war, who suffers from post traumatic stress. Some parts are raw and emotional, but throughout I tried to carry the common theme of the brotherhood that exists between all our military people, while still trying to convey the essence of the Florida Keys.

I hope you will like this offering and remember, half the proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to Wounded Warrior Project.

The day is getting closer! Cover reveal time!!!

I got the finished cover photo from my photographer (and sister Marine) Nicole Godsey. If anyone in the Augusta, GA area needs photography work done, you can reach her at
www.nicolegodseyphotography.com.

I immediately sent her photo to my graphics artist (and long time friend), Tim Ebaugh in Melbourne, FL to do the cover graphics. Tim is also an exceptional photographer. He took the photo on Fallen Hunter. He can be reached at www.timebaughdesigns.com.

Okay, enough about the great work by some great friends. Here's the cover for my upcoming novel, Fallen Pride. Remember, half the proceeds will be going to Wounded Warrior Project.

Update on Fallen Pride and Wounded Warrior Project.

Fallen Pride is coming along well. I'm just over 56% done writing, if it gets to 100,000 words. If it winds up being only 80,000 words, then I guess I'm 70% done.

Half the proceeds from Fallen Pride are going to be donated to Wounded Warrior Project and WWP has taken notice and did a short write up on their website as well as a few other book promoting websites.

A friend and sister Marine, who is a professional photographer has kindly donated her services for the cover photo. It will feature a Marine sitting down, with his head in his hands. Surrounding him will be Wounded Warriors from many branches of service. Her husband is an Wounded Warrior Soldier.

I've been promoting it like crazy on Facebook and Twitter and hundreds of people are retweeting my blurbs, reaching tens of thousands of people. Interest is starting to reach a fever pitch.

I plan to do a huge promotion when it launches next month. My first book in the series, Fallen Palm is going to be advertised on BookBub and the Fussy Librarian at the same time. It will be at a reduced price of only 99 CENTS for Kindle users and should sell somewhere in the range of 1000 to 3000 copies in that one day. At the same time, my second book will be reduced to only $1.99 and it will benefit from the BookBub ad as well, probably selling 500 to 1000 copies on that day.

Fallen Pride will launch a couple of days ahead of this at $3.99 and I'm hoping it will sell at least 100 copies that day and over 1000 for the month. If so, I'll be sending a check to Wounded Warriors 60 days later (royalties are paid 2 months after the end of the month) in the neighborhood of $1400 and hopefully do that every month.

I plan to leave the price of Fallen Palm at $.99 permanently after the promotion, as a hook to attract more readers. Fallen Hunter will go up to $3.99 a few days after the promotion and Fallen Pride will remain at $3.99 until it's selling 40 copies a day consistently. Then I can raise it to $4.99 and be donating over $2000 a month to this very worthy cause.

Top 10 Amazon Best Sellers!!

Fallen Palm and Fallen Hunter entered the Top 10, on Amazon's Best Seller list, in the Kindle Store, for Sea Adventures. Fallen Hunter is now selling more than Fallen Palm, probably due to the giveaway on 1/17/14, where 1526 people took advantage of the free download of Fallen Palm, which included the first two chapters of Fallen Hunter.

While I'm still not able to quit my day job, there's light at the end of the tunnel and it's not an oncoming 18 wheeler. Fallen Pride will launch in late March and even though I'll be donating half the profits of this third book in the Jesse McDermitt series to Wounded Warrior Project, I think that I'll have replaced my income then. The as yet untitled fourth book will launch in late June and I'm certain that I'll be able to turn in the keys to the truck and come off the road to write full time.

Independence Day will have a whole new meaning for me and my family in 2014. Thank you, to everyone that's read my books for making this possible.
